Tailoring business
Partnership wirh N.E.W. Foundation
There were no tailoring services close to village communities in Sironko District which means villagers had to travel long distances to find fabrics and clothing. Therefore, This project aimed to improve living conditions and prospects of families living below the poverty line by enabling village women involved in a local VSLA to establish a sustainable income generating activity.
This business enabled 20 women to develop tailoring and business management skills. Together with the equipment and tailoring centre, this has enabled them to generate income in a sustainable way. As a consequence, their family members have seen a clear improvement in their living conditions. With an average household of 6 children in Uganda, this extends to more than 120 indirect beneficiaries. Women who have been trained in the tailoring business have also trained additional beneficiaries, extending even more the benefits and the savoir-faire.
Seeds has contributed to the creation of this business by donating for the construction of the tailoring centre and the purchase of the sewing machines and sewing materials. It has also provided an 18 months long tailoring training, and technical support provided by the volunteers.
