Gabriela is 20-year old student of Business Administration at Deusto Business School in Bilbao. Here she tells us about her experience with Seeds in Uganda. Thank you Gabriela for your contribution!
“Uganda is commonly known as a land of true African hospitality, something which I have had the chance to acknowledge by myself. Going to Africa, for the first time, on my own has been THE challenge I anxiously accepted and a mzungu said to me once there: “I have lived here for 11 years and travelled a lot around Africa and I could firmly state that you made the right choice coming to this charming country on your first time in Africa”.
It has undeniably been a life-changing experience and the Pearl of Africa definitely took a part of me. Not one day goes by without thinking about Uganda and how many astounding people, who would stop me in the street to welcome me to Uganda, unforgettable moments and breathtaking landscapes I have left behind. Moreover, I have had the chance to see firsthand how vital micro-finance is in small communities and the unbelievably positive impact it has on their lives. Women, seeking their families’ welfare, take loans and start small businesses which in fact are enabling them to exit the poverty threshold, absolutely impressive! Now, they are willing to take one step forward and start a tailoring project as a group. I am confident they will success in everything they set out to achieve; they are eager to leave their unfortunate situation behind.
I invite whoever is thinking about going, to embark in this mind-blowing adventure; it is totally worth it!”
