Our volunteers

"I am a legal advisor passionate about human rights and specialised in international human rights law and the rights of indigenous peoples. After obtaining my master degree and writing extensively on various topics relevant to the matter, it appeared fundamental to me to gain some experience in the field. After numerous application in order to find a position, I obtained several response from various type of organisations. I thus had the option to chose between several of them. Seeds NGO seemed to me to be the rights choice as 100 % of their funds goes to their beneficiaries and since their humanitarian impact and other related policies are well known to be particularly beneficial to their partners and grantees. Working with seeds NGO as a Project Coordinator is a great experience. Seeds gives a lot of room of action to its volunteers concerning their human rights initiatives as long as such actions remain linked to the attributed mandate. Being accepted for this position provided me with a great opportunity to develop numerous human right skills. As Project Coordinators, some of our responsibilities include the building of new partnerships, the organisation of conferences and workshops, the provision of trainings, the assessment, development, implementation and backstopping of human rights standards and policies, the drafting of arguments, project proposal, concept note and policy papers, the implementation of fundraising strategies, and when necessary, the updating of website contents and social media platforms for further social awareness. Through the fulfillment of my mandate and hence the development of those human right skills, working with Seeds NGO expanded considerably my chances to be accepted for future human rights positions, roles and activities.

Beyond these points, working here in Uganda is an incredible cultural experience. It is a great opportunity to learn and understand more about customs, cultures and traditions. Being passionate about sociology and anthropology, it as been a great opportunity for me to fulfill my willingness to meet with peoples and cultural diversity. "

"My arrival in Mbale, Uganda was my first step on the African continent. Coming from a a brief journey within the European institutions in Brussels, the changeover was as extreme as it was thrilling. The warmest aspect is definitely to be able to work on the field every single day, the direct contacts with the communities we work with. It also means that we are there to directly observe the impacts that our projects can have. To arrive in the village, to talk with the families living there, to observe that some of their youngest kids are not at school, to come back 6 months later and to talk to the same beneficiaries, only to hear them say that they are now economically able to send their youngest daughter to school thanks to our VSLA programmes. This is something that gives you plenty of reasons to smile all week long and get up in the morning to go to work.

Obviously, the fact that we also work in the Pearl of Africa is what we can call a plus. "
