SEEDS NGO
We empower women through microfinance solutions in rural Uganda

Our action

We have been committed to empowering communities living under the poverty line through microfinance solutions. Our Village Saving and Loans Association (VSLA) groups provide an efficient and effective instrument for communities to come together, save money and lend loans, especially where access to financial banks and local resources is either too expensive, too far, or unavailable.

We work hand in hand with local organizations to implement and extend our reach to neighboring communities and further geographical locations. Our saving groups are mainly composed of entrepreneurial women with big ambitions, families, and responsibilities. By joining our VSLA groups, they become more empowered and financially capable, as taking the first steps towards achieving their goals and providing a better future for their families (healthcare, access to education, land, business investments, housing, etc).

Through our microfinance solutions and VSLA projects, we are committed to make a positive change for the current and future generations in a self empowering and sustainable way.

Join us & let's plant the seeds of hope in rural Uganda!

Microfinance solutions through VSLA - Village Savings and Loans Association

Savings groups support people who don't have access to financial services to save money and learn key financial skills:

  • They form a group of 20-40 members, with 2 out of 3 being women.

  • They meet weekly to save their humble capital together.

  • Once a sufficient amount is reached, the members can take out loans and start their own local projects and finances (school fees, healthcare, land, business investments, housing…).

  • After a 12 months cycle, the members share-out their initial contribution and interests generated, as dividends.

This allows them to borrow and save money in a community based group and in a transparent and secure way that encourages them to build financial knowledge and skills.

These loans and savings provide a mean for them to have the fund for their personal needs (families, personal projects, etc). With a average of six members per household, each saving groups indirectly impacts 900 beneficiaries, including husband and children. Since 2013, Seeds has been able to impact 12 000 direct beneficiaries so far, and 72 000 indirect beneficiaries.
